Our Sows

Duroc 69-4 Farrowed 12-06-04 “RUBY” Bred by David Martin IA
Red Baron X Trendy

This daughter of Red Baron has proved to be a strong generator and a great mother in just her first two litters. Ruby typifies balance and function and impressed us at every stage of the game. In her first two litters, she has stamped her structure and look in her progeny and she has been complimented well by Huinker’s Totally Wide Open genetics. Now in her working clothes, today we would term Ruby with the “Franchise Tag” of our operation and feel she can keep us moving in the right direction. She has turned into one impressive brood sow and she will definitely celebrate a few birthday’s at McCormick-Maxwell Farm. Be sure to check back this spring for her pigs sired by Purple Power’s Misplaced.

Duroc 9-7 Farrowed 02/06/05  Bred by MCMA
Swagger X Simply Irresistible
Swagger, Simply Irresistible, VIP Direct Hit, Ameritech,Snake Eyes

The Swagger sow carries the Simply Irresistible genetic line that was successful for us over the last four years. Her mother was out of a very strong litter that included the Champion Duroc Barrow at the 2003 Indiana State Fair Open Show and she traces back to the Champion Duroc Gilt at the Indiana State Fair Junior Show in 1998 that became the backbone of our red sow herd. This Swagger daughter combines two great maternal families with the flexibility and structure of Tom Olsen’s Smooth Deal genetics along with the foundation of our old sow lines. As a young sow, 9-7 has generated solid each mating. She is a great mother that keeps her flesh and is on target when it comes time to rebreed. Her litter by 119-2 has been as good as we have seen in some time at the farm and we look forward to her Commando litter this winter.

Cross 3-8 Farrowed 01-14-05 Bred by MCMA
Ground Zero X Big Daddy
Ground Zero, Big Daddy, Tae Bo, Stinger

Here’s the female that allows us to reach back to the old Tae Bo sow that generated the Wizard along with many other successes. After producing beyond our expectations, we were fortunate enough to send back a daughter into production, out of the last litter produced by the old Beck sow. 3-8 ties together the functionality of her sire with the club pig heritage of her great mother. This blue sow is ultra good in terms of angles and structure and still has a big rib and a beautiful underline. We were pleased with the success of her first mating’s and feel that her Immortal 36-1 litter this January could be very popular this spring.

York 8-7 Farrowed 02-04-05 Bred by MCMA
Killer Good X Full Court

This Killer Good daughter out of the old Lorenzen sow was one impressive show gilt in her prime. Her width of chest and power coupled with her stout heads up look had us excited about her potential to get us along in the Yorkshire ring and generate blue barrows. After a somewhat up and down period following her show career, we have gotten this sow back on track and will anticipate her January Purple Rain litter. 8-7 offers as much versatility as any sow on the farm in terms of generating Yorkshire showpigs along with fancy blues when mated to black exotics

Cross 1-7  Farrowed 01-01-06 Bred by MCMA
Wide Belt (Hamp) X Simply Irresistible (Duroc)

When we mated the old Simply Irresistible sow for the last time, few would have probably taken her to a Hampshire boar. However, in thinking outside the box, we decided to experiment and were fortunate enough to get one more strong litter sired by Wide Belt. We retained one daughter from this mating. The “Hamroc” sow is certainly the “different one” in the sow pen. Heavy structured, big scaled and powerful with the same look and design of her mother.

Duroc 2-2 Farrowed 01-04-06 Bred by Kay Christian IA
Red Hot  X Xmas

After making several stops a year ago last spring throughout the Midwest, we ran across a set of young hogs at Kay Christian’s that really intrigued us. After sorting through Kay’s set of spring durocs, we tied to the gilt that offered some unique pieces with outcross genetics. She shares the same sire as Kay’s popular “Confidence” boar which sold to Lean Value Sires and is a litter mate to the sire of this past STC champion Duroc Boar shown by the Arkfeld Family. This Red Hot daughter offers extra stoutness of bone and is big and square in her feet. She is stout featured and bold. When given the chance two times in the show ring, she was Champion Duroc Gilt both days at the Morgan County Fair. We are excited to see how this gilt will breed on through her anticipated spring litter sired by the Hitch boar standing at Purple Power.

Duroc 2-8 Farrowed 01-10-06 Bred by MCMA
Gallery 61-2 X Red Baron

We are pleased to have added this Gallery daughter out of the Red Baron Sow to our sow herd. After a successful show career with the Rhoades family of Indiana which included being named Champion Duroc Gilt at the Montgomery County fair and 2nd in Class in the Indiana State Fair Jr. Show, we have retained 2-8 and will look forward to her Prenup this February.

Duroc 1-7 Farrowed 02- 14-06 Bred by Huinker Durocs LTD  Raised by Poindexter Family OK
Sabertooth X Totally Wide Open     Owned with Brian Arnold

At the STC in 2006 we felt like we landed a nice addition to our duroc sow base when we added this Sabertooth daughter raised by the Poindexter family in Oklahoma and out of a bred gilt purchased from John Huinker. This gilt comes from a deep litter that included a class winning littermate gilt from the NJSS show and a littermate boar that wins the youngest class in the red show at the STC. As we studied this gilt at the show, we felt that her square build and heaviness of skeleton could allow her to be a barrow maker and still generate stout, basic daughters. Her first litter by Commando validated our expectations, including the Champion Duroc Barrow both days at the Morgan County Fair. Her spring litter by Hidden Treasurer at Hi Point Genetics could prove exciting and offer show barrows for late summer shows and State Fairs.

Duroc 98-6 Farrowed 5-8-06 Bred by Rodibaugh
Hitch X Louisville Slugger

This Rodibaugh sow really brings some different pieces to our sow herd and increases the value of our female base tremendously. For years the Rodibaughs have been building purebred females that consistently generate. We feel this gilt is no exception. A wide based, stout, powerful sow that kept her shape and muscle through lactation. She is bred to be a barrow maker and has the look to back this up. Her initial litter out of JFF 101 was one of the deepest and most impressive litters we have ever had at the farm which included a class winner and the 4th overall Duroc at the American Royal. We highly anticipate her upcoming litter to Special Collection and would expect her barrows to have a fun summer.

Cross 3-9 Farrowed 01-26-07 Bred by MCMA
Ninnekah X Ground Zero
Ninnekah, Ground Zero, Big Daddy, Tae Bo

Here’s an impressive crossbred female that carries on the legacy of the old Tae Bo x Stinger sow who produced Top Cut’s “Wizard.” Big scaled, long bodied gilt that is very attractive. Wide chested, big bladed and has great shape and muscle. This gilt was named Champion Crossbred Gilt both days at a competitive Morgan County Fair. She inherits the same barrow making look that made the Tae Bo sow so good but also brings with her the extra bone and heaviness of skeleton from her Ground Zero dam. After going through Southern Advantage Sires last winter, we were very impressed with Ninnekah and his ability to stay sound and keep muscle as a mature boar. If there ever was an ideal mating on paper, this upcoming litter by Immortal 36-1 could be as good as any cross litter we’ve had.

Duroc 7-10 Farrowed 2-3-07 Bred by MCMA
Commando X Sabertooth

Tremendous addition here out of the young Sabertooth sow that has become increasingly popular through the success of her first two litters. The best way to describe this Commando daughter is square. She is a moderate framed, bold ribbed wide based gilt that is extra good at the top of her blade and really square and big in her upper hip. Her littermate barrows were very successful this past summer with one being named Champion Duroc Barrow both days at the Morgan County Fair. As with all the females we build around, this gilt is correct in her skeleton, true at the ground and uniform in her underline. She is staying open at this point in time and will be bred for an early March litter.
