Maxwell-Arnold is a small show pig operation, breeding mostly Durocs with a few good litters of Yorks and Crosses to give buyers a good selection of show quality pigs. After June 16, 2007 pressure was on to change our name to something other than McCormick-Maxwell which we had been recognized as since 1998. This change is a result of the marriage of Molly McCormick to Brian Arnold.

Molly McCormick-Arnold started showing pigs at the age of six and quickly developed a great love for the swine industry. We raised almost all the pigs Molly showed over a very successful 4-H tenure. At that time, we were farrowing only one or two litters a year and only in January or February. Molly had numerous breed champions on the local level, including Reserve Grand Champion Gilt over all breeds and Grand Champion Market Litter over all breeds.  At the Indiana State Fair, Molly’s pigs were always very competitive with several class winners. In 1998 she had the Champion Duroc Gilt with a February 23rd gilt.

Molly became involved with the NJSA during its second year of existence and participated in all NJSS shows while she was a member. Molly also served a two year term as director for the NJSA, one as secretary of the association. She can still be seen assisting at NJSA shows.

While showing in national junior shows, Molly twice had a class winner at the NJSS, and ended her junior show run with the Reserve Champion Duroc Barrow at the National Barrow Show, Junior Barrow Classic in Austin in 2005.

Brian’s background includes raising and showing crossbred and Duroc hogs. His involvement in the show ring coupled with his experiences as a livestock evaluator gives us an expanded base of knowledge to carry us forward to the next level.

Molly and Brian now reside in LaFayette, IL. Molly will soon finish her nursing degree while Brian teaches at Black Hawk East College and assists Dan Hoge with the livestock judging team. Although not on the farm on a day to day basis, Molly and Brian’s input on issues regarding the breeding and female selection is very vital to the success of our program.

Larry Maxwell is the dad who looks after things on a day-to-day basis.  Larry can be found at many shows and sales looking to find another piece of the breeding puzzle.  Over the past several years, Larry has visited many farms throughout the midwest, which has been very productive in finding the right combinations to advance our herd.  Larry has just completed his second year as a director for the Indiana Duroc Breeders Association and the first as its treasurer.

Larry has been an Insurance Agent for the past 33 years, working ten years for the Indiana Prairie Farmer and the past 23 years with the Pearce Insurance Agency in Martinsville.  Larry has also been very active with the Indiana High School Athletic Association as an official for Football, Basketball, and Track & Field for the past 40 years. Larry has been assigned by the IHSAA to officiate the state championship numerous times in each sport.

While visiting our web site we hope you can realize the commitment we are making to provide quality show pigs for your 4-H and FFA projects. We have worked very hard in assembling this outstanding set of females. Our feeling that through artificial insemination anyone can purchase the semen, but you must have a good female base to be successful, and provide quality pigs that will be winners.

Remember when you hear or see Maxwell-Arnold it all started with McCormick-Maxwell.
